Building Passive Revenue Streams as a Freelance Writer

As writers, we are conditioned to believe that we need to put in the work in order to get paid: A project gets published and we never think about it again. We need to put in the hours for our retainer clients in order to get a paycheck. And, if life sidelines us, we can’t work and therefore can’t get paid.

But what if there was a way to make money even when you’re not working?

In this session, Writers’ Co-op hosts Jenni and Wudan explore ways to make passive revenue -- “set it and forget it” payments -- as a freelance creative. Sometimes this means building your own programs (like The Writers’ Co-op), selling books or courses, or creating worksheets for an online store. Sometimes it looks like using platforms like Medium that pay for views over time. Sometimes it looks like negotiating contracts so you can resell your content over and over again.

Wudan and Jenni will be joined by these entrepreneurs:

Damon Brown (damonbrown.net) helps side hustlers, solopreneurs, and other non-traditional creatives bloom. A best-selling author and 4x TED Speaker, Damon co-founded the popular platonic connection app Cuddlr and led it to acquisition within a year, all while being the primary caretaker of his infant first son. He now guides others through his consulting/coaching (www.damonbrown.net), M/W/F #BringYourWorth show (www.youtube.com/browndamon) and long-running Inc. Magazine column (incdamonbrown.com).
